Notes on the Book The Confidence Code

For both men and women, confidence helps determine success. Competence alone isn't always enough.

Fear of failure can hold women back from taking action and trying something new. To gain mastery and build confidence, you have to step out of your comfort zone and act.

Your quest for perfection can become a major obstacle to fully realizing your potential.

Fight the urge to stay invisible. Ask for what you want. You'll never know what difference you can make unless you voice your opinion.

Though there are confidence-determining chemicals in our body that affect our behavior, there is no specific confidence gene. Men and women are equally likely to grow up confident or competent.

Rewire your brain for greater confidence by reframing negative thoughts into positive thoughts.

Women can build confidence by daring to use their differences to their advantage.

While women typically tend to undervalue their competence, men overestimate theirs, showing what the authors call 'honest over-confidence'.

Confidence grows from practicing skills but since women don't want to risk being wrong, they don't participate. This feeds a vicious cycle of under-confidence.

While girls rock academics, boys outperform them in the real world. The reason is often the need for perfection in women.

Notes on Management 180122

 By Abhijit Bhaduri

Success and happiness are two different things. There are two elements to achieve the first: skills for the job and the right personality. One has to fit in with company culture to succeed. You can be successful but not happy or vice versa, sometimes organizational culture can help achieve either or both.

A resume cannot assess the depth of competence and the personality of a candidate. A four-stage filter can be a rounded process of hiring: CV shows need versus skill fit, it lists domain knowledge and competencies, and the last aspect is personality, which includes traits such as resilience, leadership qualities, and confidence.

Success requires Skill and Will. Skill is qualifier, will is differentiator.

Learning agility and willingness would be hallmarks in the future. Acquire the four aspects of agility: mental, people, adaptability to change, and results.

More millennials will enter the workforce soon. They are more tech-savvy but lack people and soft skills. The informal way can work with peers but how will clients react? Both the workplace as well as those in it have to adapt to fit in. Also, more women will enter the workforce. Perception of time and job loyalty is undergoing a shift with a new generation of workers.

A global mindset thinks beyond the boundaries of the familiar. The lack of it means comparing everything with the familiar. Being constantly curious and non-judgmental are excellent ways to open up to global culture.

Getting the most done effectively in the least amount of time allows for work-life balance. Start small, identify your passion, and find the window to practice it. Train and develop your team to take over some of your work.

Notes on Life 281221

Destiny is prarabdh karma and freewill is kriyaman karma. In poker or bridge, the cards you get is destiny and the way you play is freewill.

For success in life, you need Clarity of dreams, goals, Conviction in your vision and Courage to take action in that direction.

Intrusive thoughts are different from urges, cravings or behaviour.

Paradox of thought suprression was revealed by white bear experiment where people were asked to not think of white bear.

Treat your guru as banana. Eat the pulp throw the peel away. That is take the knowledge and ignore the physical being.

Imperfection is the new perfection.

At times, our brain mistakenly presumes that worrying is a productive habit or activity.

Neuroscientists say waking up at 5 AM enables heightened focus on a high-value activity, and achieves flow using the improved processing power of the brain. The process is aided by the prefrontal cortex, which temporarily ignores distractions.

Robin Sharma Book insights :

Tips to wake up early include discipline, working out for super fitness, a controlled diet, passion for work, and a full-body massage.

Four qualities that set apart great minds: they are not defined by their talent but by how they realize their potential, they avoid distraction, personal mastery practice, use day stacking to improve by 1% daily.

To improve personal mastery, work on your mindset (psychology), heartset (emotionality), healthset (physicality), and soulset (spirituality). These are the four Interior Empires to work on in the victory hour of 5 AM to 6 AM.

Willpower, personal discipline, recovery, four-part habit-forming routine, and heightened self-control constitute the science behind excellence.

Divide the victory hour into 20-minute time slots for exercise, reflection, and growth. The 2X3 Mindset requires you to triple your performance to double your effectiveness.
